Major AI News
🚀🎨 Ideogram AI: A Free Midjourney Competitor
Ideogram AI announced on August 22, 2023, its formation with a focus on generative AI for creativity.
The founding team includes AI experts from Google Brain, UC Berkeley, CMU, and the University of Toronto.
Raised $16.5 million in seed financing led by a16z and Index Ventures.
Open to the public as of August 29, already amassed 90,000 users.
Ideogram v0.1 specializes in converting text into images, and particularly excels in typography.
Supports a variety of image styles like Illustration, Anime, 3D Render, and more.
Free for non-commercial use.
Hiring for multiple roles in engineering, research, design, and operations in Toronto.
My take: Nice to see a new competitor of Midjourney. Sadly, Ideogram is limited to non-commercial use cases.
Privacy-Friendly AI
🚀💼 ChatGPT Enterprise: A Privacy-Friendly AI Solution for Businesses
The Launch of ChatGPT Enterprise with enterprise-grade security & privacy was announced in an official blog article from OpenAI.
Offers unlimited (in contrast to 50 messages every three hours for Plus subscribers) and higher-speed GPT-4 access, longer context windows (32k instead of 8k tokens for GPT-4), and advanced data analysis capabilities (for Plus subscribers previously released as Code Interpreter).
Features SOC 2 compliance, encryption, and an admin console for team management.
Also provides free API credits for full customization.
More features are in development, including tools for specific job roles and a version for smaller teams.
My take: This is the answer to the announcement of Azure ChatGPT highlighted in issue #17. If the price is reasonable, it will likely be the go-to solution for many companies.
PKM and AI
🎉🚀 Snipd Premium: A Game-Changer in Podcasting!
The Snipd team launched their premium subscription model. To know all the details, listen to the announcement podcast.
Redesigned episode screen, player screen, and saved snips screen.
AI notes, which create a bullet point summary out of your highlights, are rolled out to all users.
Supporting AI features for private feeds, which allows you to upload your own recordings and use the tooling you know from Snipd like easy highlighting and AI transcription.
Premium subscribers get full AI access for over 500,000 episodes and can process 15 hours of unprocessed episodes per month. The most listened-to shows are transcribed automatically, and no user needs to spend his quota.
Free subscribers get access to AI features for only one processed episode per week.
Future Roadmap:
Adding AI features for other languages.
Access Snipd from a web interface on your desktop or laptop.
Ask your podcast questions which are answered by AI.
Podcast discovery tooling.
Early Adopters who sign up in the first week get 65% off in the US, and the subscription is renewed at a discounted rate until canceled. You can subscribe directly in your Snipd app.
My take: The update does not add a lot of value in comparison to the previous free plan. However, the AI processing can't be done for free, and I am happy to financially support the Snipd team which created an app that I use nearly daily. Looking forward to many nice features being added in future releases.

🎙️📝 Zettelkasten for Creative Knowledge Work
In episode 26 of the PKM with Aidan Helfant podcast, he discussed with his guest King In Motion how to use the Zettelkasten for creative knowledge work.
King states that it is hard to explain the Zettelkasten system to a five-year-old. Nevertheless, here is one answer I generated with GPT-4 to this (I like the analogy, but it only covers the concept in a very basic way):
Think of Zettelkasten like a spiderweb in a garden. Each thread on the web is a piece of information or a fact. The spider adds more threads to connect different parts of the web. That's how Zettelkasten works; it connects different notes or ideas together, so you can find them easily later.
My take: Those who are keen to know more and learn about an alternative to the currently famous note-taking approaches of BASB (building a second brain) and LYT (linking your thinking) should listen to this episode and consider following King on 𝕏.
