👂🗣️ Google Introduces Assistant with Bard
Google Assistant is a virtual assistant developed by Google, initially launched in May 2016 and designed to perform tasks and answer queries through voice commands on platforms like smartphones and smart speakers.
Google has now unveiled Assistant with Bard, a new digital assistant that merges Bard's generative AI capabilities with Google Assistant's personalized features.
The platform is highly adaptable, offering interaction through text, voice, and even images.
It integrates with existing Google services like Gmail and Google Docs to make your digital life easier to manage.
Assistant with Bard uses your personal data to create replies. This assistant is still in the experimental phase and will be made available to a select group of testers before a public rollout in the coming months.
My take: Assistant with Bard looks promising, especially with its ability to integrate with existing Google services. However, I'm keen to see how Google ensures privacy, especially given the deep integration with personal services like emails and documents.
🌐🔄 ChatGPT Browsing Is Back
OpenAI reactivated the browsing feature in ChatGPT, enabling ChatGPT to provide current and easy to check information.
The browsing feature was initially deactivated due to copyright issues, as it could copy entire passages from the web, as described in AidfulAI Newsletter #11.
Updates include following rules set by websites and identifying user agents, allowing websites to control how ChatGPT interacts with them.
Initially, browsing is available to Plus and Enterprise users, with plans to expand access to all users soon.
After activating this Beta feature in the settings, to enable browsing, users need to select 'Browse with Bing' under GPT-4.
Model selection shows again the Browse with Bing option.
My take: It's excellent to see the browsing feature reactivated as it significantly aids in obtaining up-to-date information and especially in providing source-backed statements.
🌟🤖 Stable LM 3B: The Mobile-Friendly Model
Stability AI announced the release of an experimental version of their new language model, Stable LM 3B. This model packs a punch with 3 billion parameters, but is designed to be efficient enough for use on portable devices like smartphones and laptops.
The model requires fewer computational resources and thus consumes less power compared to its larger counterparts. This makes it not only more affordable but also more sustainable.
Don't be fooled by its smaller size; Stable LM 3B has shown to outperform previous models with similar sizes and even competes favorably with some of the larger 7 billion parameter models. It excels in natural language processing benchmarks, including common-sense reasoning and general knowledge tests.
While Stable LM 3B is a general-purpose language model, its design allows for fine-tuning for specific tasks. Companies could use this feature to develop specialized customer support or coding assistants without breaking the bank.
This model is open-source and available for download on the Hugging Face platform, released under the CC-By-SA 4.0 license.
My take: Given the growing concerns over data privacy and the increasing need for decentralized solutions, Stable LM 3B could offer a promising avenue for implementing privacy-friendly AI. Its portability and efficiency mean that more tasks could potentially be processed on-device, reducing the need to send data to centralized servers for analysis.
⏱️🎧 Save Time with Snipd's AI Podcast Summaries
Snipd has rolled out a feature called AI Podcast Summaries that crafts 5-minute summaries of podcasts for either reading and / or listening.
The summaries are well-organized into three main sections:
Introduction: A brief encapsulation of the entire podcast episode to provide a quick overview of the topics covered.
Quick Takeaways: Insightful bullet points delivering the core messages in a digestible format.
Deep Dives: A segmented breakdown of various topics discussed in the podcast, each headlined with a title followed by a descriptive text passage.
Beginning of the AI Podcast Summary of The Bootstrapped Founder 256
After listening to a summary, you can effortlessly jump into the full episode by hitting the skip forward button on your headphones.
My take: While I thoroughly enjoy delving into podcasts, the sheer volume of available content can be overwhelming. Snipd's AI Podcast Summaries are a game changer, streamlining the process of navigating through an extensive array of podcast material. Furthermore, I really love that I can listen and read the transcript of podcasts, but especially summaries, at the same time (immersion reading).
