Generative AI Reshapes How We Create and Consume Content
Generative AI has already revolutionized content creation, allowing for new material to be produced in a fraction of the time previously required. However, this rapid production often comes at the cost of quality and engagement. AI-generated content lacks the human touch that makes stories compelling and relatable. People are naturally drawn to follow other humans and their creations, seeking authenticity and emotional connection.
In an era dominated by AI-driven content generation, building a trusted relationship with the audience is more crucial for content creators than ever before. Consumers will become increasingly selective, choosing to engage with authors and pages they know and trust. This shift emphasizes the importance of credibility and personal connection in creating content. AI may disrupt the traditional gatekeeper role of media companies, empowering individual creators and niche communities to reach wider audiences and potentially democratizing the media landscape.
However, advancements in generative AI are also transforming how we consume media. AI can help everyone to digest information more efficiently by providing summaries of videos or long articles, allowing to extract key insights without engaging with the full content. This capability enhances our ability to stay informed while saving time. Likely, there will be so much more content available in the near future, that we need AI algorithms to analyze our preferences and deliver highly personalized content recommendations. This will shape individual media diets and potentially create filter bubbles or echo chambers.
The future of content creation and consumption is likely to be dominated by AI algorithms. It feels like a cat-and-mouse game between creators and users. Will generative AI revolutionize content or lead to a dystopian future where humans are reduced to consumers of algorithmically curated content? Only time will tell.
📰 AI Update
Snipd Expands AI Podcast Features to 10 New Languages
The podcast player Snipd so far offered its AI features to create summaries, chapters and transcribed bookmarks only for English podcast episodes. The latter is a game changer as it allows everyone to save interesting passages in audio plus text format by pressing a button on the phone, earplugs or driving wheel.
In a recent update, Snipd enabled their AI features additionally for the following languages: German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Portuguese, Polish, Norwegian, Danish.
Another interesting feature, which allows you to discover podcasts that feature a specific guest, was already released last month. You can even follow a person and get new episodes with them listed on the main page of the app.
My take: Snipd is one of the few apps I use nearly daily on my smartphone. I love to listen to podcasts while driving or doing domestic work. While doing that, I truly appreciate the possibility to create a bookmark of the current position by pressing a button on my headphones or steering wheel. Besides this feature, I started to like the discovery capabilities of Snipd quite some time ago. The person-centric searches are a very welcome new possibility. The cherry on top is the new capability to also use the advanced AI features, especially the creation of text transcripts of my highlights, in my mother tongue. You can start to use Snipd for free, but if you want to get the advanced features of their premium subscription, you can get a month for free with this link.
Perplexity Pages: A Game-Changer in Search Engine Technology
Perplexity, the AI search engine company, created a new way of presenting their results named Perplexity Pages.
Instead of the AI replies we received so far by using their service, the new approach named Perplexity Pages creates longer article style responses by simply entering a topic.
The tool automatically adds an outline, section headings, writes the content, and suggests images. Users can customize the tone and target audience (general, beginner, expert).
Editing features allow resizing/changing images, adding AI-generated images, changing layouts and asking for additional specific sections.
Published pages have a shareable link and allow readers to ask follow-up questions using Perplexity's search. One example of a published page is What is the Aeropress and how do I use it?, which describes a tool which is known for creating wonderful coffee at a really low price.
As of now, Perplexity Pages can only be created by Pro subscribers.
My take: Perplexity Pages offers a glimpse into the future of content creation. Instead of manually searching and finding pages, this tool creates the pages for you. However, this innovation raises concerns about the potential for an endless cycle of AI-generated content. AI will be used to write articles, which are then used to generate even more AI-written articles. I see a risk of filling the web with repetitive and low-quality information.
🌟 Media Recommendation
Maintaining Credibility in the Age of AI Content Creation
In the newest episode of The Next Wave podcast, Roberto Nickson, a product designer who pivoted into an AI content creator, joins Matt Wolfe and Nathan Lands to discuss the world of AI content creation.
While AI-generated music may lack the unique human touch essential for creating truly meaningful art, humans have a tendency to follow and be influenced by the creations of other humans. Therefore, it is possible to utilize AI as a tool to aid in the creative process of art and music, but it should not be left on autopilot.
Credibility and trust are invaluable assets for content creators. They are essential for building relationships with their audience and gaining the trust of companies. Even if critical in the past, companies like Google are willing to work with creators who have established credibility and a loyal audience. Nearly all successful content creators prioritize trust and credibility over monetary gains, they turn down sponsorships for products they do not believe in.
My take: Content creators are likely to have a bright future if they do things right. Using AI will be fine, but it is essential for them to add their own stories and personal experiences to whatever they create. Humans want to connect with other humans they trust and feel connected to.
